An Island Getaway : Mangrove Forests and Fishing Village Life

Pulau Ketam, or Crab Island, was first settled by Chinese fisherman in the late 1800s. Fishing is still the main activity on this car-free island, located just off the coast of Klang, an easy trip from Kuala Lumpur. You'll enjoy the slow-paced life of the fishing village, watch the boats come in and even pick your dinner menu from the day's catch. You'll observe the various traditional trades, from boatwrights to producers of homemade dried shrimp. A cruise around the island and a hike are the perfect opportunities to admire the island's flora and fauna in the unique eco-system of the mangrove forests. Feast on local seafood in a traditional restaurant.
